I Didn’t Start FractionScents Because I Was a Fragrance Expert.
I started FractionScents because I was the guy who needed a site like this.
My name is Austin Smith. I live in Dallas, Texas, I’m originally from Oklahoma City, I’m an Air Force veteran, and I’ve spent years working in marketing and building businesses online.
But fragrance? That was completely different.
I wasn’t a cologne collector. I wasn’t the guy who could smell something and tell you the top notes, dry down, projection, or what kind of musk was in it.
Honestly, for the longest time, I knew one cologne: Dior Sauvage.
And that’s exactly why FractionScents exists.
It Started in Las Vegas
In February 2024, I was in Las Vegas during Super Bowl weekend.
My marketing business works with promoters and hospitality groups around major events like the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Weekend, Essence Festival, the Kentucky Derby, New Year’s Eve, and other major travel weekends. My role has always been on the marketing side—helping people discover events through search and putting the right options in front of people already looking for somewhere to go.
While I was in Vegas, I stopped at Fashion Show Mall because I wanted some new cologne.
The problem was simple: I didn’t know what to buy.
I knew Dior Sauvage, but I didn’t want Dior Sauvage again.
Someone introduced me to Al Haramain Amber Oud Gold Edition EDP. It smelled good, so I bought the 3.3 oz bottle for more than $100.
Months later, Amber Oud Gold Edition started showing up everywhere on TikTok. That’s when I began seeing the same fragrance selling online for around $30-something.
I had already used the whole bottle, so this wasn’t about returning anything. It simply opened my eyes.
I really didn’t understand the fragrance business.
I didn’t know what things were supposed to cost. I didn’t understand designer fragrances versus Middle Eastern fragrances, dupes, decants, samples, or half of the terminology fragrance people use every day.
I was just a regular guy who wanted to smell good.
Then I Tried to Find My Next Cologne
Fast-forward. I decided I wanted another fragrance, except this time I was sitting at home instead of standing inside a department store.
I’ll take a fragrance quiz. Problem solved, right?
Not exactly.
I tried one popular fragrance-subscription site’s quiz and couldn’t finish it. Then I tried another. Same problem.
The questions assumed I already understood fragrance. What kind of notes do you like? What kind of musk? Which fragrance family do you prefer?
If I already knew what all of this stuff smelled like, I probably wouldn’t need your quiz.
That’s when something clicked.
Most people who really need help discovering fragrances don’t necessarily speak fragrance. They know situations. They know how they want to feel. They know where they’re going.
I didn’t need a fragrance quiz. I needed an answer.
Fragrance Should Make Sense in Real Life
I didn’t need somebody asking me fifteen questions about ingredients I couldn’t identify. I needed to be able to ask simple questions.
What’s good for date night? Show me.
What should I wear to the office? Show me.
I’m meeting her parents. What works? Show me.
I want something subtle. I want something clean. I want something people are definitely going to notice.
That’s the thinking behind the way FractionScents helps you Find Your Scent.
Instead of forcing you to become a fragrance expert before you can shop, FractionScents organizes fragrances around real life.
You don’t need to know the technical vocabulary. You just need to know what you’re looking for.
I Didn’t Want to Fill the Site With Random Bottles
Once the idea clicked, I wanted to answer one question:
What are people actually wearing and talking about right now?
I didn’t want 3,000 fragrances that force you right back into the same problem FractionScents was supposed to solve.
I wanted the fragrances people are currently recommending, buying, wearing, complimenting, discussing, and going back to.
So I went deep.
I reviewed hundreds of fragrance videos covering the most recommended men’s and women’s fragrances from 2024, 2025, and 2026. I looked at reviewer opinions, YouTube comments, retail product reviews, fragrance communities, Facebook groups, brand information, retailer pages, and conversations from actual fragrance buyers.
Then I used AI to help organize and analyze all of that information—not to magically invent what a fragrance smells like. A computer doesn’t have a nose.
I use AI to help make sense of a massive amount of human experience and opinion and identify the patterns.
Hundreds of Fragrance Videos
I reviewed years of current fragrance recommendations instead of relying on one person’s opinion.
Real Customer Feedback
Reviews, comments, community discussions, and customer experiences help identify recurring patterns.
Current, Not Endless
The goal isn’t to carry every fragrance ever made. It’s to focus on scents people are actually interested in now.
Real-Life Categories
All of that information helps organize scents around situations people actually understand.
Scent is subjective. My opinion alone shouldn’t decide what you buy. But if hundreds of people consistently describe something as an incredible date-night fragrance, clean office scent, compliment getter, subtle fragrance, or statement maker? That’s useful information.
Why Every FractionScents Sample Is 8 mL
Every fragrance sample we sell is 8 mL.
I’m not trying to give you ten different size choices. An 8 mL sample gives you enough fragrance to actually live with the scent.
Wear It to Work
See how it performs through an actual day instead of a five-minute test.
Wear It on a Date
Experience the scent in the exact kind of situation you bought it for.
Try It in Different Weather
Fragrances can behave differently depending on temperature and environment.
Make a Real Decision
Decide whether you actually love it before considering a $150, $250, or $500 bottle.
Depending on how you spray, an 8 mL atomizer can provide well over 100 sprays. That’s a completely different experience from spraying something on a paper strip in a department store and trying to decide five minutes later whether it’s worth the price of a full bottle.
“100% Authentic” Should Mean More Than “Trust Me.”
Once I learned more about the fragrance industry, another question became important:
How does a customer know the fragrance inside the sample is actually real?
Every reputable decant company can tell you its fragrances are authentic. I wanted FractionScents to take that a step further.
I wanted to show you.
Every FractionScents sample comes from a genuine retail bottle that I purchase from one of three retailers:
I Purchase the Original Bottle
The fragrance starts with a genuine retail purchase from one of the retailers listed above.
I Record the Verification
A continuous video documents the purchase information, packaging, matching barcode, and opening of the factory-sealed bottle.
Your Sample Gets a Unique Code
Samples produced from that bottle carry a unique batch code connecting them back to the verification record for that run.
When I open a new bottle for a production run, I record the process in one continuous video. You’ll be able to see the retail purchase documentation, verify the packaging, see the factory seal opened, and see the matching FractionScents batch label associated with that bottle.
That same unique code appears on the 8 mL samples produced from the run.
I don’t want authenticity to just be a sentence at the bottom of the website. I want you to be able to check it yourself.
And Yes, I’m Really the Person Doing This
FractionScents isn’t a giant fragrance corporation pretending to be personal.
Right now, it’s me.
I built the website. I research the fragrances. I purchase the bottles. I prepare the samples. I label them. I package them. And I ship them.
I’m a marketer and entrepreneur by background. I attended Langston University in Oklahoma—shout out to Langston—and I’ve always been a big believer in being self-taught and learning how to build things yourself.
A lot of what I know about marketing, SEO, web development, technology, and business came from researching, experimenting, YouTube, trial and error, and simply figuring things out.
I found a problem I personally had and thought: There’s a better way to do this.
So I built it.
Luxury Without Making Fragrance Complicated
The samples may be smaller. The experience shouldn’t feel cheap.
Every FractionScents order is prepared with the goal of giving you something clean, professional, premium, and worthy of the fragrance inside it.
Each 8 mL atomizer is labeled and protected with a tamper-evident seal before it leaves me.
Whether the fragrance inside costs $150 a bottle or $500+, I want opening your FractionScents package to still feel like you bought something worth having.
Because you did.
FractionScents Is for the Person Standing Where I Was
You want to smell good. You know there are amazing fragrances out there. You just don’t know where to start.
You don’t want to smell 30 bottles at a fragrance counter. You don’t want to spend $200 just to discover you don’t really like something. You don’t want somebody talking over your head with fragrance terminology.
You shouldn’t need to become a fragrance expert just to find something that works for you.

Skip the technical terminology and start with the situation that actually matters.
Maybe You Want Something Clean for Work
